Conference Report

Conference Report

Our Conference on November 12th was a huge success and provided a resounding endorsement for a National Park in Galloway. With almost 300 delegates it was standing room only at GG’s yard, near Gatehouse of Fleet.

The event was introduced by Dame Barbara Kelly who emphasised that this is a critical moment for the region to make the right choices for its future. A series of speakers, including three groups of young people, then spoke about the benefits a National Park could bring for the ‘Kingdom of Galloway’.  It was clear that the GNPA’s considerable efforts to reach out to people through public meetings, events, social media and its own online survey have revealed an overwhelming measure of support from people of all ages and in all walks of life.

The Conference paid tribute to Sir Alex Fergusson, who was a keen and active proponent of the Park. MSPs Finlay Carson, Colin Smyth and Emma Harper attended the event alongside Councillors and representatives of a wide variety of local interests and organisations.

The event received widespread coverage in the media on ITV Border News and in the press, including Galloway News, Galloway Gazette, Stranraer & Wigtownshire Free Press, Carrick Gazette, Scottish Farmer and BBC News.
